Disney Set to Open World’s Largest Disney Store in Shanghai in 2015
Where there’s a Disney theme park, there’s obviously a Disney store. Even as Disney develops the Disney Resort Shanghai, the company has announced that it will open the world‘s largest Disney Store Shanghai in 2015.
The Walt Disney Company China took part in an official signing ceremony this week between Stanley Cheung, executive vice president and managing director of The Walt Disney Company, Greater China, and Li Jinzhao, general manager Shanghai Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone Development Co., Ltd. The 53,000-square foot store will be located in Shanghai’s financial hub and will feature 10,800 square feet of retail space and a Disney-themed outdoor plaza.
The interior of the store will allow families and kids to interact with Disney characters and stories from across Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. The plaza will feature Disney-themed landscaping, a first for any Disney Store property in the world and will have the capacity to host outdoor events providing a destination hub for family entertainment.
The Disney Resort Shanghai is scheduled to open at the end of 2015. The Disney Store concept debuted in 1987 and now features 340 locations around the world. The store in Shanghai will represent the first store on the Chinese mainland.
